More than 12,000mē of low maintenance vinyl tiles from Polyflor’s Voyager Transport Division are installed in crew quarters on Royal Caribbean International’s new Freedom of the Seas - currently the world’s largest cruise ship.
Voyager’s Polyflor PUR, in a variety of colours, was selected for the project by Aker Finnyards designer Annika Einola, who was impressed by the product’s “appearance, durability and ease of cleaning”. The flooring - which features in crew cabin corridors, crew staircases, offices and lockers and storerooms - was supplied through Polyflor’s Finnish distributor RTV Yhtyma.
Polyflor Voyager PUR offers a range of 20 visually refreshed multi-tone shades, each featuring two base shades and two highlight tones. The product is available in 2mm sheet and features a high quality polyurethane reinforcement which, combined with a superior closed surface finish, can cut maintenance costs by up to 48% by facilitating a low cost, lifelong polish-free maintenance regime for the lifetime of the floorcovering.
Voyager PUR complies with all regulations and standards for the marine environment and is already widely specified for crew and other “back of house” areas on cruise ships and ferries.
The Freedom of the Seas project is, however, a major coup. As well as being the world’s biggest cruise liner at 158,000 gross registered tons, the ship boasts 1817 staterooms, including the 14-bed Presidential Suite, and introduces the first ever shipboard surf park and a host of other aqua entertainments. |
